The thrill of leaps, pirouettes, and exquisite Pointe work will explode with
performances of great moments from the Greatest Classical Ballets of our
Time, Featuring Artistic Directors Andrei Vassiliev and Cornell Callender,
along with the National Ballet of Denver company dancers, International
guest artists, and students of the National Ballet Academy of Denver.
The National Ballet of Denver was founded March 5, 2005 by Mr. Callender and
Mr. Vassiliev, and the annual performance helps sustain more than 2,000
classes offered year round to serious ballet students. The academy provides
disciplined classical ballet training in the southern metropolitan areas of
Denver, and serves a broad geographic swath, including Littleton, Highlands
Ranch, Lone Tree and Castle Rock. By founding a company and an academy,
notes Mr. Vassiliev, Mr. Callender and I recognized a rare opportunity to
bring high quality dance training and performance to the southern suburban
community. The performance celebrates this achievement.
Mr. Callender is one of the most talented dancers to emerge from the United
States. He began his training at age 11 on a full scholarship at The School
of the Hartford Ballet. At age 14 Mr. Callender was invited to study at the
Royal Ballet School where he received the Dame Ruth Railton Award, for
overall high standard of technical and artistic excellence. The following
year Mr. Callender represented the Royal Ballet School in the 2001 Prix de
Lausanne Competition, were he was a prizewinner. Mr. Callender has performed
with the Royal Ballet and the Birmingham Royal Ballet Company, the English
National Ballet, and the Pacific Northwest Ballet.National Ballet of Denver
cont'd.
Mr. Vassiliev has demonstrated exceptional talent as a dancer and has
performed with prestigious dance companies, both in Europe and the United
States, including Theatre Opera Ballet of Sikifkar, Leipzig Opera Ballet,
English National Ballet, and Pacific Northwest Ballet. Mr. Vassiliev's
training was extensive and of exceptional quality. He trained at the Perm
Academy Ballet School, Theatre Opera Ballet School of Sikifkar. After
winning 1st prize in the prestigious Prix de Lausanne competition, Mr.
Vassiliev was awarded a scholarship to study at the Hamburg Ballet School in
Germany. In addition, Mr. Vassiliev performed at The 14th Annual Festival of
Rudolf Nureyev, the Celebration of the Arts Gala in Padova Italy, and the
