Denver, Colorado: On Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 7:30
P.M., at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House – Denver Performing Arts
Complex, Located at Speer Boulevard & Arapahoe Street in
Downtown Denver., the National Ballet of Denver will perform A
Night of Stars, a celebration of memorable excerpts from
best-loved classical ballets.
The thrill of leaps, pirouettes, and exquisite Pointe work will
explode with performances of great moments from Swan Lake,
Giselle, Don Quixote, The Nutcracker, and more, featuring guest
artists and Artistic Directors Andrei Vassiliev and Cornell
Callender, along with the National Ballet of Denver company
dancers, Guest artists from the Bolshoi Ballet, San Francisco
Ballet, American Ballet Theater, and students of the National
Ballet Academy of Denver.
The National Ballet of Denver was founded March 5, 2005 by Mr.
Callender and Mr. Vassiliev, and the annual performance helps
sustain more than 2,000 classes offered year round to serious
ballet students. The academy provides disciplined classical
ballet training in the southern metropolitan areas of Denver,
and serves a broad geographic swath, including Littleton,
Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree and Castle Rock. By founding both a
company and an academy, notes Mr. Vassiliev, Mr. Callender and I
recognized a rare opportunity to bring high quality dance
training and performance to the southern suburban community. The
performance celebrates this achievement.
Mr. Callender is one of the most talented dancers to emerge from
the United States. He began his training at age 11 on a full
scholarship at The School of the Hartford Ballet. At age 14 Mr.
Callender was invited to study at the Royal Ballet School where
he received the Dame Ruth Railton Award, for overall high

year Mr. Callender represented the Royal Ballet School in the
2001 Prix de Lausanne Competition, were he was a prizewinner.
Mr. Callender has performed with the Royal Ballet and the
